  • Laws against driving under the influence of alcohol are strict and follow a policy of zero tolerance

  • Motorway tax payable on motorways and other express/dual carriageway roads
Use of Mobile Phone Whilst Driving
  • It is illegal to use a hand held mobile phone when driving and can result in an on the spot fine of €200
  • It is legal to use a hands free unit
On the Spot Fines
  • Motoring offences attract on the spot fines
  • An official receipt should be obtained from the officer
Seat Belts
  • Passengers in both the front and back seats must wear seat belts where fitted
Traffic Light Regulations
  • Red – Stop
  • Amber – Slow Down
  • Green – Go
  • Motorists must not turn right at a red light
Fuel
  • Large fuel stations located near motorways are often open 24 hrs and accept major credit cards
  • Lead replacement petrol, unleaded petrol and diesel is available
  • Unleaded 95 or 98 super petrol is known as “natural”
Parking Advice
  • In most streets, cars can park on the right side only facing the same direction as traffic flow
  • Finding parking spaces on Prague’s streets can be challenging and cars can frequently be subject to break-ins
  • Whenever possible it is recommended to use a secure parking lot
