  • 50kmh (30mph)

  • 35mg of alcohol in the bloodstream
Road Tolls
  • There are no toll roads in Malta
Use of Mobile Phone Whilst Driving
  • It is illegal to use either a hand held mobile phone or hands free device
On the Spot Fines
  • No on the spot fines are given
  • If any motoring or parking offence is committed for which a fine is payable then this will be required to be settled before departure
Seat Belts
  • Compulsory for front and rear seated passengers
Traffic Light Regulations
  • Traffic signals are fairly new to the Maltese islands and it is advisable to be extra vigilant when going through a green light – some local drivers do not necessarily adhere to them
  • Red – Stop
  • Amber – Slow down
  • Green – Go
Rush Hour in Built Up Areas
  • 0800 - 1030hrs
  • 1200 -1400hrs
  • 1700 - 1900hrs
Fuel
  • Petrol stations are open 7 days a week on a 24 hour basis
  • On Saturdays between 1200hrs and 0759hrs (the following morning) and all day on Sunday the petrol stations operate on a self-service basis
  • Credit Cards are not accepted
  • Unleaded Super 95/98 and Diesel available
Parking Advice
  • No Parking / Tow Zones - Double yellow lines indicate that the area is not available for parking
  • A car spotted in such areas may be Clamped or Towed away
  • Timed Parking Zones - When visiting certain localities in Malta and Gozo watch out for "Timed Parking Zones"
  • These are zones where parking is limited to a one hour maximum
