Road Rules
- Vehicles drive on the right hand side of the road
- Horns may be used only to give warning in case of danger
- Trams have priority
- It is illegal to cross over a solid white line even when turning
- Buses have right of way when leaving bus stops in built up areas
- A large number of cyclists and skaters are often found in many of the major towns
- The green ‘E’ symbol indicates an international motorway
- The red ‘A’ symbol indicates national motorways
- Main roads are marked with yellow signposts and the letter N (“provincial roads”)
- A yellow and white diamond shaped sign gives you right of way on a junction and a row of white triangular signs on the road indicate that you have to give way. This is combined with a triangular white road sign edged with red which points down.
- It is strongly advised to switch on headlights during the day, especially in wet/ rainy conditions but also on roads that are lined with trees on both sides
