Portugal
Road Rules
- Vehicles drive on the right hand side of the road and overtake on the left
- At the junction of two roads of equal size, traffic coming from the right has priority
- Vehicles already on a roundabout have priority over those entering it
- Radar traps and unmarked police cars enforce speed limits
- Trams operate in Portugal, and where there is no platform for passengers to alight, cars are required to give way to passengers making their way to the pavement
- All vehicles must carry a reflective safety-vest. The vest can be either yellow or orange, as long as it is officially certified. Drivers are required to wear the vest any time they have to stop on the shoulder of the road and get out of their vehicle. It should be kept in the passenger cabin of the vehicle – not the boot – so that it can be put on prior to the occupant of the car getting out and stepping onto the road
- It is illegal to run out of petrol when crossing the mile-long Ponte 25 de Abril in Lisbon and you must keep to the speed of 30-50kmh (18-31mph)
